LAST_VALUE

Applies to ✅ Open Source Edition   ✅ Express Edition   ✅ Professional Edition   ✅ Enterprise Edition

The LAST_VALUE window function allows for getting the value of an expression evaluated on the last row of the window.

SELECT
  ID,
  last_value(ID) OVER (ORDER BY ID
    ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING),
  last_value(ID) OVER (ORDER BY ID
    ROWS BETWEEN CURRENT ROW AND 1 FOLLOWING)
FROM
  BOOK;
create.select(
         BOOK.ID,
         lastValue(BOOK.ID).over(orderBy(BOOK.ID)
           .rowsBetweenUnboundedPreceding().andUnboundedFollowing()),
         lastValue(BOOK.ID).over(orderBy(BOOK.ID)
           .rowsBetweenCurrentRow().andFollowing(1)))
     .from(BOOK)
     .fetch();

Producing:

+----+------------+------------+
| id | last_value | last_value |
+----+------------+------------+
|  1 |          4 |          2 |
|  2 |          4 |          3 |
|  3 |          4 |          4 |
|  4 |          4 |          4 |
+----+------------+------------+
  • The window frame clause is applied to LAST_VALUE. The default of CURRENT ROW being the upper bound is questionable, so an explicit upper bound is usually required.
  • LAST_VALUE supports the optional NULL treatment clause.
